Iatrogenic hydrothorax complicated by reactive pleural effusion.

چکیده
Central venous catheterization, an everyday procedure in intensive care units, has a number of well recognized complications.' Venous wall perforation resulting in hydrothorax is unlikely when the right internal jugular vein is cannulated by an experienced operator using a J -tipped guide wire and the Seldinger technique.2 If perforation of the vein does occur, complications within the chest cavity can result in considerable morbidity, or death.3'4 We report the result of propofol and atracurium infusion into the chest cavity and discuss factors related to malplace ment of the venous catheter.

Fetal Pleural Effusion
Unlike trace pericardial fluid, which can be seen in normal fetuses, any fluid in the pleural space is abnormal.1,2 The incidence of fetal pleural effusion is unknown, but has been estimated to occur in 1 in 15,000 pregnancies in tertiary care centers.2,3,29 The actual incidence of primary fetal hydrothorax may be even higher if one considers that in many cases the condition may remain undiagno...
متن کاملSpontaneous neutrocytic hepatic hydrothorax without ascites.
Pleural effusion occurs infrequently in patients with cirrhosis of the liver, almost always in the presence of clinically obvious ascites. Although the mechanism of fluid transfer into the thorax is controversial, the main factor seems to be the presence of defects in the membranous parts of the diaphragm. This is usually on the right side. Subsequent infection of the pleural fluid is believed ...
متن کاملDiagnostic Values of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor for Benign and Malignant Hydrothorax
BACKGROUND Hydrothorax, as one of the common complications of malignant tumors, still cannot be sensitively detected in clinical practice, thus requiring a sensitive, specific method for diagnosis. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in patients with benign and malignant hydr...

متن کاملA Case of Successful Intrapleural Chemotherapy with Cisplatin Plus Cytarabine for Intractable Malignant Pleural Effusion
When conventional treatments of malignant pleural effusion, such as repeated thoracentesis, closed thoracotomy and pleurodesis by instilled sclerosing agents, are ineffective, there are few alternative therapies available. Our case involves a 47-year-old woman with uterine cervical carcinoma suffering from malignant pleural effusion. She presented with a chief complaint of severe dyspnea, and w...
